Things You Didn’t Know About Celebrities

January 31st, 2013

An increasing number of voices across the mass media board, from legitimately scientific sources to celebrities, have been clamoring that hang-ups over sexuality-related topics are pass?. In a day and age in which some twenty to thirty per cent of all Americans have confessed to using sex toys, it does seem somewhat hypocritical to keep hiding behind the same outdated taboos and abide by the same self-righteous social norms. ‘Plastic fantastic’ accoutrements have been showing up all over the news, in movies, in print, and most other forms of media. Here are some of the most hotly debated appearances sex toys have made around the proverbial ‘block’ in recent years.

Material Girl

Madonna has always thrived on controversy, since her entire career has been literally built on ambiguity, morally ‘playing with fire’, and a histrionic, versatile approach to building her fame and success. She had an African-American man portray Jesus Christ in her infamous Like a Prayer video – so it should come as a mock-shocker at best that she was also photographed using sex toys in her erotic photography book Sex.

Rabbit and the City

The Rabbit (also known as the Jack Rabbit) vibrator, which features several speeds, anal beads, and a clit stimulator, was first elevated to must-have status by none other than popular TV series Sex and the City. By all accounts it was the star of the “The Turtle and the Hare” episode in which it was featured and then became a bestselling celebrity overnight.

Truly Desperate Housewives?

Two of the female stars on the once hugely popular one-hour drama show admitted to using vibrators. Hispanic hottie Eva Longoria told Self magazine that she uses a Rabbit vibrator, which has given her some of the most pleasurable sexual experiences ever. She also enjoys gifting her friends with the toy, since, according to her, an orgasm is the best gift to give. Similarly, in an interview with an online style magazine, co-star Teri Hatcher, who was unattached and not looking for an exclusive partner at the time, admitted she just uses “fancy electronics instead”.

Seriously Spice up Your Life

The Spice Girls have also seen their fair share of controversy, but that’s possibly why they managed to make a highly successful, albeit brief comeback in the early 2010s. Musical talent aside, at least two of the band’s members have admitted they have a good relationship with toys used for sexual pleasure. As a matter of fact, back when she was engaged to be married, ‘Baby Spice’ Emma Bunton admitted she still used her trusty vibrator – which had been given to her as a gift by ‘Scary Spice’ Melanie B. It’s unclear whether Geri Halliwell took some tips from her two band mates, but what we do know for a fact is that she also owns and uses a Rabbit vibrator. According to her, the only disadvantage about it is sex toys “don’t hug you afterwards”.

Hot, Hot Hollywood

When it comes to someone as often talked about as Lindsay Lohan, no mention of sex toy usage is going to take anyone by surprise. However, it is somewhat impressive that LiLo actually chose to buy no fewer than twelve Rabbits, which she then proceeded to send to a dozen of her closest friends – including, of course, equally controversial Kate Moss. Halle Berry, on the other hand, projects a much more mature and sophisticated image. That makes it all the more awesome that Ms. Berry has no hang-ups in admitting she’s a frequent buyer at the Pleasure Chest in West Hollywood.
