John Miller, a well known CBS News correspondent who drew both praise and scrutiny for his potential to leverage his law-enforcement and nationwide stability contacts for large information stories, is leaving the community to work in counterterrorism for the New York Police Section, CBS introduced on Thursday.

Right after a job spent toggling in between tv and legislation enforcement, Mr. Miller will be rejoining an aged buddy and manager, William J. Bratton, the incoming law enforcement commissioner. Mr. Miller’s shut connection with govt agencies has troubled some media watchers, who criticized Mr. Miller’s recent “60 Minutes” specific report on the National Safety Company for its seemingly cozy therapy of controversial spying packages.

In the course of Mr. Bratton’s first tenure as the city’s law enforcement commissioner, Mr. Miller served as the department’s chief spokesman in 1994 just before going to ABC Information, where he interviewed Osama bin Laden in 1998. In 2003, Mr. Bratton, then Los Angeles’s law enforcement main, employed Mr. Miller to lead the counterterrorism bureau.

“When you get a call and you get the likelihood to serve the greatest city in the entire world, potentially the biggest terrorism risk in maybe the best law enforcement department in the world, it is hard to say no,” Mr. Miller, 55, explained on Thursday, throughout a send out-off segment on CBS.

He spoke about the Police Department’s counterterrorism division, calling it “the most complex and ahead-leaning counterterrorism operation of any law enforcement office in the globe.”

Mr. Miller has documented for CBS since 2011, following a stint in the Business office of the Director of Countrywide Intelligence. The contacts he produced at the F.B.I., the C.I.A. and the N.S.A. allowed him to acquire access and to win interviews couple of, if any, other reporters could match, including breaking news throughout the Boston Marathon bombings this calendar year.

“John Miller is a impressive journalist with deep insight into regulation enforcement,” CBS News stated in a statement. “John will always have a home at CBS Information.”
